Regional Perspectives
The day when the Washington area consisted of the District of Columbia and a collection of small suburban enclaves is long past. Today our metropolitan region is home to nearly 6 million residents, nearly 45% of whom live in Northern Virginia. Only about 12% live in the District of Columbia.

The Washington Post just endorsed the Maryland Department of Transportation’s preferred alternative to widen the American Legion Bridge and connect it to new high occupancy toll lanes on I-495/I-270.
This endorsement comes on the heels of the announcement of MDOT’s preferred partner Transurban to manage Maryland’s HOT lanes from the American Legion Bridge to the ICC.
It’s clear there is momentum to end the gridlock for thousands of Maryland families who are tired of spending 75 hours per year sitting in traffic.
Let’s keep the momentum going, email members of the Maryland Board of Public Works and tell them you are ready for key improvements to the American Legion Bridge & I-270/I-495.
