Transportation Alliance Applauds Record of Decision for Maryland Traffic Relief Plan

(Washington, DC) Today the Federal Highway Administration signed a Record of Decision allowing Maryland’s plan to improve the American Legion Bridge and I-270 to move forward. The Record of Decision includes a memo debunking false claims of scientific fraud from perennial project opponents (Appendix D, page 17). The Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance released the following statement:

“The Record of Decision from the Federal Highway Administration could not be more clear. There was never any scientific fraud and those claiming scientific fraud were once again proven to be spreading misinformation to try and undermine a project they have opposed from the very beginning,” said Jason Stanford, president of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance. “This critical milestone is a major victory for the hundreds of thousands of people who rely on the American Legion Bridge and I-270 every day. This project will reduce travel times across the American Legion Bridge and on I-270 for people using the free travel lanes, incentivize more carpooling, invest in more transit options, and make a new bike and pedestrian connection between Virginia and Maryland. This important, multimodal project will benefit our entire region.”
