The Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance has joined a coalition of more than 20 regional business organizations urging the General Assembly to fully restore the funding diverted in 2018 from the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority (NVTA).

“Transportation projects funded by the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority produce tremendous economic benefits for our region and the Commonwealth,” said Jason Stanford, executive director of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance. “Failure to fully restore these funds will compromise Northern Virginia’s ability to build the comprehensive, congestion reducing, multi-modal transportation network that our community needs.”

Signed by 23 organizations from across Northern Virginia, the letter advocates for the Virginia General Assembly to authorize an addition $70 million/year for the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority to replace the money that was diverted in 2018.

The redirection of that funding resulted in the delay or partial funding of more than $400 million in regional transportation projects across Northern Virginia. The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority funds projects that expand the capacity of our multi-modal transportation network. These projects are essential to relieving congestion and accommodating Northern Virginia’s growing population.
