Alliance Applauds Adoption of Authority’s Six Year Program Update
The Northern Virginia Transportation Authority has approved an update to its Six Year Program including funding for 21 new multimodal transportation projects totaling nearly $540 million over two years.
“These projects are major steps forward for transportation in our region,” said Jason Stanford, Executive Director of the Alliance. “They increase travel capacity in some of our community’s most congested corridors such as I-95 and will greatly enhance regional North-South connectivity. The Alliance applauds Authority members for investing in multimodal transportation improvements that will greatly benefit our region’s quality of life and economic prosperity for many years to come.”
The Authority’s new Six Year Program funds many of the projects supported by the Alliance and the Northern Virginia Transportation Business Coalition. Those projects include:
- $120 million for US 1 Richmond HighwayWidening in Fairfax County
- $37.4 million for Fairfax County ParkwayWidening
- $78 million for US Route 1 Widening in the Town of Dumfries
- $36.7 million for Crosstrail Boulevard Extension in Loudoun County
- $18 million for Evergreen Mills Road Widening in Loudoun County
- $24 million for Summit School Road Extension in Prince William County.
These projects total $314 million and represent nearly 60% of the funding allocated by the Authority.
The Six Year Program includes planned spending for construction, development or study of regional transportation projects in Northern Virginia. The most recent allocations are for FY2024 and FY2025. Over the last two years, including the Inaugural Six Year Program adopted in 2018, the Authority has invested $1.8 billion in more than sixty regional transportation projects across Northern Virginia.
