Key Alliance I-395 Strategic Priority Advances NVT Alliance Discusses Regional Transportation Projects on News Channel 8
NVT Alliance Policy Director, Nancy Hiteshue Smith, appeared on News Channel 8’s NewsTalk Tuesday morning to praise Governor McAuliffe’s recently announced conversion of I-395 HOV lanes to High Occupancy Toll (HOT) express lanes and discuss other regional transportation matters including improvements to I-66 Outside and Inside the Beltway.
“[The I-395 project] will provide great options for travelers through the corridor with additional third lane, Smith said, “As we have seen on I-95 and I-495 the [addition of] Express Lanes, not only has it provided reliable travel time for users in the Express Lanes but has also improved travel time in the general purpose lanes….it’s a win-win for travelers in the corridor.”
Conversion of I-395 HOV lanes is a longstanding Alliance priority.

Smith said the Alliance endorsed the proposed addition of two express lanes to I-66 outside the Beltway, but is concerned that the inside the Beltway proposal is focused exclusively on peak period when in reality the roadway is heavily congested routinely during the mid-day, evenings and on weekends.
She was joined by Marty Nohe, Chairman of the Northern Virginia Transportation Authority, for an interesting discussion on the state of transportation in Northern Virginia.
